To Hide or Not to Hide

If you are considering installing a security camera, but you are not sure if you want it to be visible or hidden, it may be wise to consider the reasons why you want to install the security system. If you want to protect the outside of your home from intruders, it might be best to have visible cameras, so that they know that they are being monitored. Some states do not allow hidden cameras in places that people can expect reasonable privacy, such as in a bedroom, bathroom, break room, or dressing room even within your own home. In Utah, you cannot install any device to record video or sound without permission in places where people can expect reasonable privacy. In some cases, it is also illegal to record audio without permission. Allowing a third party to view the recording other than if the footage is assisting the investigation of a crime is prohibited in most places as well (as in uploading hidden camera footage to YouTube).
